QUIT YOURSELF PROVES HE IS ‘FOR THOSE THAT CARED’

For an artist trying to develop his composing talent, playing in a group can be very useful. Just being in the room and making music with like-minded people is a huge advantage. It can give them the confidence that their love of music is real and the ability to inspire others with their own abilities. Our latest discovery, Travis Matheny, has put these years in the band and is now ready to launch his solo project Quit Yourself.

He grew up in a small town near Ann Arbor, Michigan, which gave him an inspiring environment, but a trip to his grandparents’ house in Ithaca, New York, where he got his first guitar, cemented his love of music. Punk and the emotional scene of the early ’00s became his calling. Bands such as Blink 182, Park, Casino and Take Back Sunday provided the songs that Travis studied and honed his skills with.

Working with several punk and emotional groups from the Midwest and New York City contributed to his abilities. From 2006 to 2014 he played with Fairway (Ithaca, New York), Words After (Ann Arbor, New York) and I’m Happiest When (Buffalo, New York). After his breakup, he had time to work on other musical ideas that came to his mind. That’s how “Get away from yourself” was born.

He was very successful and on March 20, 2020 started his first EP “For Those Who Care”. A record of 8 songs, recorded in the attic of his house, shed those emotions that had accumulated over the years. Already now, thanks to the beautiful guitar melody of the debut track “You”, we know what awaits us with the album “emotions”. Right under the charged emotions lyrics – an energy bubble that unites the listener with himself.
